Opening at Flanders Art – opening reception,
Thursday, April 24, 2008, reception from 6-8pm.
Related Event – Lecture by Judy Chicago titled Feminist Art in the 21st
Century: Content, Context and Community, Minneapolis College of Art and
Design, Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at 6:30pm.
Flanders Art was instrumental in securing a permanent home for the 1970s’
most important feminist art icon, The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago.
Celebrating the first anniversary of its permanent, shrine-like residence in
the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at New York’s Brooklyn
Museum, Flanders Art has scheduled the exhibition Dinner with Judy Chicago,
a collection of studies for Ms. Chicago’s monumental installation.
The Dinner Party consists of a massive triangular table set with embroidered
runners, gold chalices and utensils, and China-painted porcelain plates with
three-dimensional vulvar and butterfly characteristics. Each place setting
honors one of 39 historically important women, beginning with ancient
civilization and proceeding through Western history.
The opening reception for the Judy Chicago exhibition at Flanders is
scheduled for Thursday, April 24, 2008, from 6-8pm.
In conjunction with the Flanders exhibition, the Minneapolis College of Art
and Design is hosting Judy Chicago’s lecture “Feminist Art in the 21st
Century: Content, Context and Continuity.” The lecture is scheduled for
Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at 6:30pm. Seating limited.
Early arrival recommended.
