Graphics Gallery: Prints by Shark's Ink

Flanders Contemporary Art is very pleased to announce our new featured exhibits- Prints from Shark's Ink. and Recent Work by Ed Lentsch. Both shows open with a reception on Friday, April 19th from 6 to 9 p.m., and will run through June 1, 2002.

In our Graphics Gallery we are delighted to introduce to you the prints of Shark's Ink. Based outside of Lyons, Colorado, Shark's Ink. has been printing the work of some of today's most widely recognized artists for over twenty-five years. Founded in 1976 by Master Printer Bud Shark, this printshop is well known for pushing past the boundaries of traditional printmaking.

.

The use of unusual media such as watercolor, oil pastel, metallic leaf, chine collé, and pochoir are commonplace at Shark's, as are multi-piece assemblages that can require hours of precise labor and delicate patience. Their serene location in the foothills of Yellowstone National Park inspires a cohesive working relationship between artist and printer that can only assist in yielding unique results.

Featured artists include Enrique Chagoya, John Buck, Betty Woodman, Italo Scanga, Robert Kushner, Red Grooms, Terry Allen, William Wiley and many others. Shark's Ink. takes an honest, yet enthralling and fresh look at printmaking in the 21st century.

Master Printer Bud Shark will be in attendance for the show opening. On Saturday April 20th at 2:00 p.m. Bud will lead an open discussion and take questions about Shark's artists, printmaking processes, and the life of a Master Printer.

In our Main gallery we are pleased to present Recent Work by Ed Lentsch. Ed Lentsch's rich use of textures and materials give his immense paintings a corroded wall-like appearance.

Lentsch's work suggests the artist as alchemist, breaking the barriers that our own nature imposes upon us. Many of his works incorporate calligraphic marks, some use objects like architectural trimmings and antique fragments. Dark and moody, the pieces present a mysteriously formidable ambience.

Flanders Contemporary Art is located at 400 North First Avenue, first floor in the Wyman Building. Gallery hours are 10 to 5 Tuesday through Saturday, and by appointment.
