Bruce Anderson-

Impressionsfrom a Red Room

Local artist Bruce Anderson exhibits paintings from the 70's titled Impressions From a Red Room.

Most of these paintings have never been viewed, with the exception of a few pieces which have been on exhibit at The Minneapolis Institute of Art.

Impressions from a Red Room are paintings that are self-portraits transcending representation and entering mythology. Anderson's mixed media pieces combine aluminum foil and oil paint. Originally Anderson aspired to use stainless steel but unable to afford the material, Anderson used aluminum foil which adapted to his intent very well. These large paintings, almost monumental in scale, combine a controlled chaos with riotous use of color and texture creating an uncanny sense of emotion and balance.

Sue Howe- Recent paintings

Also on exhibit are Sue Howe's recent paintings.

Her attention to personal objects, dainty deserts, and counter-top implements are passionately portrayed by her smooth brushstrokes and dotted shadings.

The modern composition, the unique layering of broken color and the classic sensibility intends to stand the test of time.

This is our fourth exhibition featuring the paintings of
Su Xinping
. The familiar images of Mongolian men and women, horses and cows filling enigmatic landscapes of his childhood again express conflicts between the old China and modern Chinese life. Isolation and uncertainty continues to permeate these new compositions but the symbolism of the pink rose refers to hope and spiritual purification.

Come and meet Chinese artist Su Xinping during his first visit to Minneapolis on Wednesday, June 1st, from 5pm -8pm.

Artwork will be on exhibit May 14th - June 25th 2005

Gallery hours are 10 to 5 Tues. through Sat. and by
