Main Gallery : Tiepolo inspired paintings and collages by Ginnie Gardiner

Annex Gallery : The Landscapes of Randall William Bennett

Flanders Contemporary Art is very pleased to present new paintings and collages from New York painter Ginnie Gardiner .

Drawing inspiration from Baroque Master Giambattista Tiepolo, Ms. Gardiner employs his sense of color, composition and content, while simultaneously incorporating elements from modern day culture and media.

Working almost daily in her studio, she begins by selecting fragmented pieces from existing Tiepolo works, and combines them with printed media, with anything from a magazine fashion advertisement to real life press photographs. Beginning with a collage, Ms. Gardiner then arranges and composes the shapes and colors, until the underlying connections become apparent. Using the collage as a study she paints on canvas using oils that she hand grinds with pigments from around the world. In the painting Tiepolo Flight 800 Ms. Gardiner combines a fashion model's hand, an aerial photograph of the crash of Flight 800, a Tiepolo figure, and folds from various fabric swatches. Incorporating Tiepolo's color palette, love of gesture, fold and layering she has gone on to create her own intricately spaced and layered masterpiece. Ms. Gardiner will be showing new recently completed paintings and collages. A color catalog is also available through the gallery and includes an essay by Wendy Smith.

A selection of the new paintings are available for viewing on our website, , under "Ginnie Gardiner" in our Gallery Artist section, this webpage also contains a link to a selection of Ms. Gardiner's other paintings on artnetweb and Massurrealism/New York.

In our annex gallery, Randall William Bennett will exhibit his pleine -aire landscapes on canvas. Capturing nature at it's most quiet and splendid hours, Bennett renders this peacefulness in acrylics masterfully. Whether it is clouds reflected in a calm lake, or the soft, last light of sunset Bennett's love of nature comes through in his large scaled canvases. Using a style very similar to early American realists, his landscapes are hard edge and crisp, in a warm, natural palette. Mr. Bennett's work will also be available on-line at the Flanders Contemporary Art website.
