Flanders Contemporary Art

Current Exhibitions     December 7, 2001 - January 12, 2002

Opening Reception Friday, December 7 from 6-9pm

Main Gallery : Todd Severson

Annex Gallery : Marcia Casey Cushmore

Back Gallery: Erick Keast

Flanders Contemporary Art is pleased to announce what promises to be three truly unique one-person exhibitions, featuring works which span territory from painting to photography, from conceptual to sculptural.

Todd Severson moves fluidly between evocative paintings which emerge out of many layers of enamel paint which are delicately marked by grinding down through the layers of paint with a chainsaw. On the other hand he is known as well for more conceptual works like The Complete American First Ladies Dessert Plate Set, which includes 42 ceramic plates with relief portrayals of our country1s top female symbols. The plates are all arranged on plate rails within a painted wooden support.

Marcia Casey Cushmore has been known for some time for her color photographs, at times having painterly applications of oil articulating forms and color fields within. A particularly subtle series of photographs of the North Shore of Lake Superior reveal the myriad and sometimes almost unbelievable dance of light and color across each picture. More and more, Marcia has been producing pure paintings which play serenely with these layers of atmosphere and colors.

Erick Keast skillfully blends Native American folklore and traditions into sculptures constructed from surreal assemblages of unlikely found materials. His paintings as well as his sculptures will be exhibited.

The opening reception for these three artist's varied expressions is on December 7 from 6 to 9 pm, with music by Wind and String. The exhibitions run through January 12, 2002.

Flanders Contemporary Art is located at 400 North First Avenue, first floor in the Wyman Building. Gallery hours are 10 to 5 Tuesday through Saturday, and by appointment.
